Feedback on a Tatoo Idea
I'm a big music fan, and an even bigger Led Zeppelin fan, so I've been considering an idea for a tatoo on my right arm, around the bicep/tricep area. I'm thinking about getting the first 2 or 3 bars from the guitar intro of "Whole Lotta Love" or the drum part that leads into the main solo after the instrumental/ambient break towards the end of the song (I'm a big fan of John Bonham, one of my main inspirations to start drumming). What do you guys think of that idea? Kind of random, but I'm sitting at work bored, so what the heck.

Well, let's start with the word tattoo.
Now that we have that worked out, if that's what you like then that's what you should get. But one thing you can do is get the artist to draw it up for you first and you can post it up here so we can see it.

I could probably draw it myself, it won't be hard to draw out the bars and musical notation. I think the hard part will be transcribing the drum part, since it's notoriously hard to find tabs or sheet music for Led Zeppelin songs (they're pretty tight fisted with their material). I'll get something up this weekend.

Re: Feedback on a Tatoo Idea
My only recommendation is that you try to stay away from little pieces. Try to think into the future a little and keep in mind that once you get one you're probably gonna get more. try to make the piece something that you can add to later or surround easily with other art. My brother is a tattoo artist and I hate to see people filling up their skin with little tats and then realise that they almost have a sleeve now but there's no rhyme or reason and they can't make it look right. Have you thought of putting the line of music on the inside of your bicep or something? Then you could have more room to work with as opposed to across your arm. Then later it would be easy to add some background to it that would tie it in with the rest. Just a thought.

That's actually the plan now. I was going to wrap it around the arm, but now I'm going on the inside of the bicep running up it laterally with a smaller piece.
You're probably right, once I start, I'll probably want more, but we'll see, so far I just plan on getting that, then going from there. Great suggestion though.

No problem- Just wanted to throw you some advice from past experience. Make sure you check out the artist's portfolio and /or ask around to make sure he's been around and ain't going anywhere for awhile. It's always better to get it touched up later if needed by the original artist. Good luck with it by the way.

Thanks. Looks like I'll be going in August with my sister. She'll be getting her sixth one, I believe. Should be cool, I can't wait.

Just don't go home with an arm band or a wall tattoo.
See if they have a website we can check out too. All self respecting shops have a site.

A tattoo that was already on their wall when you walked in- Stick with something original and take the pattern with you when you leave.

Gotcha. I plan on sketching out the design first and bringing it in. I don't want anything too fancy.
